Travelling to Grindelwald

On foot along the pass road over the Kleine Scheidegg or through the steep and narrow Lütschinen Valley – this is how travellers set out for Grindelwald in bygone days. Today, the resort at the foot of the Eiger has excellent transport links to and from all over Switzerland.

Getting there by car:
Grindelwald can be reached from Basel in around two hours, from Bern in just over an hour. The quickest route from Zurich is via the Brünig Pass; the journey by car from the city to Grindelwald takes around two and a half hours.

Getting there by public transport:
From Zurich Airport, there are half-hourly trains to Bern (1 hr 15 mins). This is where the journey to the Bernese Oberland begins. The train runs alongside Lake Thun to Interlaken (approx. 1 hr). There are also excellent rail connections from Basel. From Basel SBB station, there are half-hourly direct trains to Interlaken Ost. At Interlaken Ost, change to the Berner Oberland Bahn (BOB) train at platform 2B. The blue and gold trains take 35 minutes to travel to Grindelwald.
In Zweilütschinen, you will get your first glimpse of the Wetterhorn in the distance, before the steep and narrow Lütschinen Valley blocks your view again. The train winds its way upwards between almost perpendicular cliffs. Shortly before Burglauenen, the valley widens to reveal – and make sure that you are prepared for the upcoming spectacle – the mighty and awe-inspiring Eiger North Wall.

Take the long way round:
Why not surprise your participants with a pre-seminar or pre-conference fringe programme? Travel to Wengen and from there over the Kleine Scheidegg to Grindelwald. Hold a team-building event at the top of the pass, at the foot of the majestic Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains. A trip to the Jungfraujoch, an absolute highlight, is another option well worth considering.
