World Snow Festival Grindelwald

Every year in January the center of Grindelwald is transformed into a landscape of snow sculptures. What began in 1983 with a statue of Heidi has now become an annual winter highlight. The World Snow Festival in Grindelwald – ephemeral snow art on the Baerplatz and Eiger+ Platz International artists from all over the world travelled to the glacier village. They have one week to conjure up their artwork from a simple block of snow.

It is sawn, shovelled, measured and discussed. Because what is off is off. You have to think carefully, work in a structured way and above all prove teamwork. The results of the teams are impressive. Beautiful snow sculptures will again be created on the subject of “mountain”. These can now be viewed until the sun gives them to nature. 10 teams from 10 nations will be back in 2021, including Italy, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Spain, Latvia, South Korea, and Switzerland. And even a Grindelwald school class is allowed to participate. Some of the works of art are located in the Männlichen ski area. You will probably be able to marvel at the sculptures there even longer than the works of art in the valley.

Every year the festival has a different motto. From 18 to 23 January 2021 the motto “Mountain” will keep the snow artists busy. We are curious what they will conjure up.
